I live at a place with a 230V 50hz supply and intends to buy a DAT machine from the US operating at 110V 60 hz. Using a step down transformer to bring the supply voltage down to 110V is not a problem for me at all but I understand that there will be a difference in motor speeds running at 50hz and 60hz. Is there any way to compensate motor running speeds by varying the volatage supply? What would be the formula to calculate the voltage if its possible?

| I would be very surprised if DAT's motor speed would be dependant on mains frequency. My Sony DAT runs on 6V battery source.;) |

If the motors run on DC, then the mains frequency does not matter at all. For my turntable project which runs on an ac motor, I could change the speed and torque of the motor by manupilating the frequency. :)

I'm afraid that engineering behind TT and DAT motors control is quite different.;)
For DAT it's more like video camera, or even tape recorder, which obviously are not frequency dependant. |
