Aikido AC Heater Supply - Click HERE for Original Thread

Hi all,

Long time lurker, this is my first post.:)

I want to build the Aikido pre-amp, and am looking at using a
Hammond 369AX TX and 6sn7 tubes.

The TX specs for Heater are 6.3v @ 2A, I found specs for 6sn7 putting Heater Current at .6A.

Will it be ok to run the four tubes (AC) off this supply? I realise the
combined amps will be 2.4 but hoping maybe this TX will be ok to
supply the current ?

I would prefer not to have to use a second TX.

Do you think I can get away with this setup ??

Cheers

I wouldn't do it. If it doesnt load up the transformer to the point that you don't get the full 6.3 initially, you may have long term problems with heat, and reliability.

Dave,

I am with paul. For long term use it might not be healthy.

Should you still want to try pls ensure heater voltage does not fall below 6 volt per tube and the TX does not get very hot after 2/3 hrs cont. use.

I tried it a while back just because I had the transformer sitting on my shelf. The result was a transformer that ran very warm. I ended up replacing it with one that had a larger 6.3 supply and problem solved.

I'd try it first. Might be ok, depends how over/underrated the trafo is.
