Components group buy for Pavel Dudek's super Gainclone - Click HERE for Original Thread
ex007
When I put togheter all ther resistors in pices I get quit a high price, so I was thinking of doing a group buy of the resistors and possible some other small parts.

What parts are you intrested in of including in the group buy.

I intend of keeping th price down and not choose any exotic components but still choose good quality.

So long I'v found all resistors in acceptable packages.

This is preliminary.
Shaun
Interested in all except chips and inductors.
ex007
I'v created a wiki for the groupbuy please sign up preliminary intrest and number of sets.

Group buy Wiki
EvilYoda
If the costs are reasonable and you're okay with it, I'd be interested in a set (possibly 2) to the US.
PM650
I'll be interested in two sets, depending on price per set and resistor type.
agent.5
Interested in 2 sets. But I am very interested in two sets of ALL components, excluding chips and inductors.

Maybe you can select some good caps like Sikorel, difficult to find and buy in the US.
jaybombalous
I am interested once I know the price, I have 2 pcb's so I will need two sets as well.

Let us know the price is so we can all see if its worth it or not please.
postalrat
Once you get a price let me know. I will probably be interested in 2-4 sets with another 4 additional chips.

Just to qulify what I said before: by "chips" I really meant the power chips, not the smaller ones. The inductors were offered with the original GB.

Could you investigate options, and perhaps set up a poll of what people's needs are?

Something like:

1) Heat sinks
2) Power chips
3) All other components (split this list if necessary, but I would not recommend it).
ex007
I'v been quit busy for a couple of days so I have not had time to do much. I aim to buy smaler and simpler parts in this group buy, resistors and perhaps ceramic and foil capacitors, depending of intrest.

I need atleast 35 partisepents to get the price optimaly low and can do maximum 40 packages.

All resistors for one board cost about 35 SEK + shiping and paypalfees.
The resistors is metalfilm type, 1%.
jaybombalous
35 SEK is about $5.16 dollars....

I will take 4 sets at that cost. :)
claiborne
I will take 2 sets. I would also be interested in the other components if you make sets of them. Thanks!
PM650
I will also be interested in 2 sets.
EvilYoda
Well you're getting close to the required number...like I said before, I'd be in for 2 sets of whatever/everything you're offering.

Just let me know exactly what that is so I can go about gathering the rest. :-p
jaste
Jag e väldigt intresserad. Sign me up for one set!

Hi, what wattage are these resistors? Thanks.

It's plain 1% metal film 0.6 W. Have you checked the BOM?

My bad. I had missed the "0207" specification when first reading the BOM. I am interested in ordering 2 sets of the resistors. Also where can one buy those retangular-shaped capacitors?
dviswa
Sign me up for 2 sets please. I would really appreciate if this Group Buy includes the Heat Sink.

BTW,
Does anybody know the Mouser/Digikey/Newark part number for the heat sink?

Thanks,
Dinesh
ex007
There now seams to be 35 preliminary sets now. My maximum number of sets are 40. I will start to put togheter aditional components.

All prices I'v write are for 40 sets and no shiping.
EvilYoda
Apparently I never wrote on the wiki, odd...so make that 39 sets total.

I would like you to include additionally the relays and terminal blocks (at least). The parts you mention here are not really that expensive, and I don't expect there to be much cost advantage gained from buying just these. For me, my interest in this GB is all about convenience: it takes quite an effort to go and buy all those parts. So the saving on the cost of the parts might to some extent offset shipping costs.

It would help a lot if you could clarify your intentions as some (including myself) have expressed a desire for various parts to be included. I don't mean to be ungrateful; I appreciate the immense favour you are doing by arranging this GB.

Edit (premature submission):

And I know that you are busy, so no pressure intended. I just want to know whether you are going to explore offering a more complete set of parts.
ex007
I'v added a lot of components for the group buy with prices for indvdual category, all prices are calculated for 40 sets, and I should be able to cover all preliminary sets until now.
See group buy wiki

I'v been looking at diferent relays and they are quit expensive sins I'm not exactly sure of the footings I'v not listed them in the group buy. For two relays of 12V 16 A the price would becom 47 SEK.
Aengus
Any additional postage costs I see as a reasonable premium to pay for not having to put together an order from (likely) several suppliers (to whom postage and handling fees would have to be paid anyway); therefore, I am interested in four sets of as many components as the group buy can include. :D

Regards.

Aengus
ex007
I have updated the component list and I'v included as many components as possible. I'm going to do my math tomorow and try to update the GB with a price. After that we need to decide if we whant to go furtehr with this of not.
EvilYoda
Looks like you're including most of the parts, so definitely count me in, pending a final price. Thanks for all the work!
claiborne
Count me in for 2 sets as well. Thanks a bunch for taking the time to put this together!
ex007
Now I'v done the math and the final price are 170 sek for one set, not including shiping and paypal fees.

Check out the shiping costs for this at peranders wiki page for the PCB group buy for shiping fee. I'll update the Wikipage during tomorow.

I'v investigated the possibility to include the relays but in this small volumes the price don't differ that much and they would increse the shiping cost.
The Wago connectors are not available for me at my local stores so I excluded them.
Aengus
Good news. Let us know when the Wiki is ready for expressions of commitment.

Regards.

Aengus
claiborne
Sorry ex007, I forgot I was already in the wiki from the first day, I have edited the wiki and taken the second occurance of my name off. Sorry.

If you are able to include the relays I would be interested even if it increases the shipping costs.

Does anyone know of a good place for people in the United States to get the WAGO connectors of the Heatsinks?

ex007 will you send out PAYPAL bills when you are ready to start taking money?

Thanks!
Aengus
Claiborne, thanks for bringing that up. I should have said in my earlier post - I too would be interested in bundling the relays even if postage costs increase. As I did say somewhere back in this thread, I'm going to have to pay P&P on separate orders anyway.

EX007, I don't know how the math works out, but if you are going to (a) put together the order, (b) receive the parts in bulk and part them out, and (c) package and mail them to everyone - then I sure hope that you are charging enough to at least get your components "free" - since the labour you'll be doing will come to at least a couple of hundred kroner.

Does anyone not agree with this? :cannotbe:

Regards.

Aengus
Shaun
I would take it as given. At least.
claiborne
Aengus I certainly do agree. ex007 should make sure his math includes compensation for his time and trouble.
Aengus
Hi EX007

I've been checking on the availability of the parts listed as "not included" in the Wiki and it seems as if the connectors MLW20G and WAGO256 are pretty obscure here in North America - it would be great if you could include them.

Same also applices to the Elyt Snap-in caps, but I haven't gone looking for a substitute as yet - may be easy enough to find (if anyone has checked on this, please let us know what you've found).

And, if you're omitting the relays only to save postage costs, I vote for including them.

Just my 2 öre ;)

Regards.

Aengus
jaybombalous
so what is the price of the package looking like now? Depending on how much they are I may only be in for two.

U said a maximum of 40, but I see we have more interest then that, what sort of problems does this create?
ex007
I'v excluded the Wago Connectors becaus they are hard to find for a private person. Farnell.se seams to have th Wago connectors but you need to be a bussiness to order from them, I can include them if I can get help with the order.

The 16 A relays cost 42,50 each and if I can get up to 10 or over 25 we get a price cut. But the second relay I'm not entirely sure about but count for about 40 SEK for that too.

So a full set would bee about 170 + 40*3 = 290 not including shiping fees.
peranders
I have a source for Wago, check your mailbox. Wago is a really nice connector and I have used it in many of my designs.

Check my source also for relays!

thats about $42 dollars, I am in for the two sets I will need to complete two boards.

ex007
Tankyou P-A, I shall look into the Wago Connector first thing on monday and hopefully we can get a price on them.

The component set seams to include more and more components.
It seams I can make about 50 sets in total so for 2 in reserve for spare parts, and 2 for me. That would make about 46 sets to send.

If anyone are intrested we have a couple of extra sets.
spind
I'll take 2 sets if they are still avialable......

Steve.
peranders
I have contacted Wago directly and asked for an offer. If it turns out well I'll will sell Wago connectors to the group buy but everything has to go via ex007. They will be grey, all of the connectors. I'll will order 256-402 which is 2-pole, grey, with lever (tool operated), pitch 5.00/5.08 mm. The connectors can be built to any pole number and will also fit 5 mm pitch and 0.2" pitch.

Ordering multicolour is out if the question I'm afraid.

The connector will look like this:

Wago is quite nice if, only IF, one wire per pole is connected. If so, you'll have a very secure or safe (don't know which word is the best) connection. The good thing is that the contact pressure is adjusted depending of how big the wire is.
peranders
ex007, even though you haven't started to collect money I have ordered 400 poles of Wago which I will have in two weeks. Those are resereved for you guys for a limited time. The rest of you which gather parts on your own can get the Wago connector from me also but the first shipment is reserved for those who are on this list.
EvilYoda
wow! That was fast. Thanks so much for the help peranders, I'm glad to see the connectors in the set.

Still in for my 2 sets!
claiborne
Thank you P-A! I'm still in for 2 sets as well...
magils
I'm in for 3 sets ( 6 channels ) hopefully ie. if it doesn't violate the maximum.

ex007
I´m in for 2 sets if it´s still possible.
Please contact me I´m having some problem to edit the wiki due to DSL problems.
ex007
I'll check if it is possible to increase my maximum limit, I’ve done the math and I’ve hopefully found a good relay that will fit.

P-A thank you for ordering the Wago connectors it is a really big help. Please email med more information about price and delivery.

Now the goal is to present all components in the wiki and set a price for the whole set, make a buy list and start to collect money during the next week. Hopefully I can start assemble sets before my vacation.
ex007
Hi, due to nice weather I'v been out sailing all weekend so I'm sorry that I'v not hade time to update the wiki or the thread. I hope that you all have had a nice weekend. I'v finaly run a calculation of the price for components and can set a price on this.

The price for one set is 300 SEK, + shiping and paypalfee.

I'v got no clue how much a set will weight so shiping is a mystery right now. I don't think 2 sets will come to over half a kilo with all components and packing materials.

I'll update the Wiki tomorow with a binding list and instructions how this will work.
Pleas sign up in the WIKI
claiborne
Does the 300 SEK include the Wago connectors P-A is going to make available to us?

Either way it is still a great price. Thanks ex007 !

Hi Ex007,

I am a little confused by that instruction. I thought I had already done so.

Aengus
Dinesh, I think he means sign up with a firm commitment after he's updated the Wiki.

ex007, just to add to your labour :xeye: - a Web search failed to turn up a N.A. source for the fuse holders/covers; how much trouble would it be to include these? That is, are you already putting together a bulk order from a supplier who offers these too, or would it mean making a whole separate order? If the latter, don't worry about it - I'll figure out a solution (any of you American or Canadian builders know of a source for these?).

Of course, it may be that all you European DIYers have tons of these in your junk piles and wouldn't want them in the group buy - in which case, again don't worry about it, I'll figure it out.

Now, if we could just convince those Czech designers to work to non-metric standards...

Regards.

Aengus

[edit] My apologies to the Europeans - that should have read, of course, "...European DIYers have tonnes of these".
Upupa Epops
Guys, if you will look closely at pic of PCB, you can to see, that fuse holder spacing have three diametres of fitting : 22.5 mm, 15 mm and 5 mm. First two ones are for european 20 mm axial fuse holders and third one is for 2" ( or 5 mm ) RADIAL fuse holder. Don't make problems where they not exist...
tkiuru
ex007:
Finally I manage to edit the wiki. I see that there are, at the moment 57 sets, is this 7 sets to much? Are the limit still 50 sets?
ex007
No the limit is no longer 50 sets, sins there was so much intrest I'v overcome the uper limit and will buy extra resistors that was my issue.
All other components are scalabel acordingly to number of sets but the resisitors.

claiborne asked:
quote:
Does the 300 SEK include the Wago connectors P-A is going to make available to us?
Yes the price are calculated to include the connectors. I'm currently double checking the price with P-A, I'll update this thread as soon as I get a replay.

I checked for them at my suppliers and saw a couple of hoods but I'm not sure if it will fit to the included fuseholder. Also they would add to the final price and to the shiping.
Aengus
OK, on reading the edited Wiki I see that the holders are included - I'm not too worried about the cover. (Pavel, thanks for your response - but note that you should never underestimate my level of ignorance in these matters :o ).

Also, the Wiki implies that you would like e-mail confirmation of our purchases - is this correct? I've sent you an e-mail on the assumption that it is.

Regards.

Aengus
ex007
That is correct I apriciate if I can get a personal email so there are no missunderstandings with the Wiki.
Email me your shiping adress, name and number of sets, I will edit the Wiki as soon as possible.

I'v got an ansver from P-A and the price includs the Wago connectors.

Now there seams there is no turning back but I need atleast 47 sets to go through at this price, there is not any upper limit of sets. Atleast not economical, but I dont think I wiould whant to assemble more than 50-70 sets...
kyan
ex007:

I think that you have wrote two diffrent e-mail adresses in the wiki. Which is the correct one, with or without ".it." in the middle?
ex007
That is an almost unforgivable misstake. :smash:
I have corrected the error, the correct adress is jonas.it.fischer at gmail.com.
Aengus
Hi

The shipping costs have a typo too - "Europe, all prices in SEK" occurs twice; I assume the second (more expensive) listing is for the rest of the world?

Regards.

Aengus
kyan
Hehe ok, I sent you another mail. I bet the other "jonas fisher" is a bit confused :D
ex007
For hurring this up I'v emaild all that not yet have emailed me confirmation of their order and asked them to do so.
ex007
I have got confirmation from almost all on the list now. I waited a little longer but if I dont'g get confirmation I won't order the extra parts and only make 50 sets. I will start send out billing tomorow, with a final price on the parts.
ex007
I'm starting to collect money now and have sent out paypal to about half of the group. The final price for all components is 290 SEK. Check out the request for more details.

I'm going to send the rest of the paypal requests tomorow.
claiborne
Payment made for 2 sets. Thanks again ex007!

Excellent, I'll have that to you later tonight. :D

EX007,
I've just signed up for 2 sets. E-Mail sent.
Thanks much,

EvilYoda
Paid! No previous paypal history kinda worried me...the_ex007@hotmail.com, right?
ex007
it seams that I've not set up the paypal correctly it uses my old email adress. It works fine, and both my jonas.it.fischer and the_ex007 works, though paypal uses the_ex007 as primary. I'v only used paypal once earlier it is kind of lagy in sweden.

I'v got several bills paied so far.
agent.5
What is the total amount for 2 sets shipped to the United States? Is it 690 SEK or 640 SEK?
ex007
The total amout you should bay through paypal os 690 SEK, for 2 sets world wide. If you use any other payment method pay 660 SEK and add same amout that is drawn for fee.

Billing for 2 SETS world wide shiping
2 SETS at 290 each
Shiping Worldwide 80 SEK
Price: 660 SEK
Paypal Fee (3,9% + 3,25 SEK) 30 SEK
Total: 690 SEK

Hope this answers your question.
ex007
The last bills and emails are now sendt. Suprisingly I have already recived about half of the payments, I expected that it would take several days for the money to travel across the world.

There are still chanse to jump onto the train with a late request.

Payment done!

Is it possible to use one toroid for 4 amps together?
bobgroger
I just ordered from Mouser, posting the BOM so it may take you less time. Includes everything on the board except LM4780 and Heat Sink. I could not find 1% 2R2 and 4R7 resistors so subbed 5% for these. Parts price with some spares was ~$70 USD per board.
BNK
Thanks, Bob.
I was looking for such Bom at mouser.
The price in the Swedish group buy was ~43$ but it didn't include some of the components.
We need to compare those out to see what is the price difference.

Where do you get the heat sinks?

Man, I wish someone had posted something like this earlier...but hopefully you can help out some people that didn't get in on the GB. Great job!
bobgroger
I am not guaranteeing 100% accuracy with this but it was the best I could do in 1 hour with the online catalog. It is at least a starting point. Anyone know how to save a Mouser project for public access? Then you could have 1-click ordering.....

I got my heat sinks from ebay seller barrredboss in 4" lengths, 4 for ~$38 delivered. A little wider than the board but suits my needs. IF I am impressed I will beautify it later. Using 1 Antek 3225 toroid per board. Eventually plan 1 paralleled board per tri-amped channel, with 2 BPA300 boards for Bass.

Too bad there are no group buys to the other components like the heat sinks, the PA and Piltron's toroids.

If there is a consensus about what voltage is required, I'd be willing to work on a GB for Plitron toroids (since they, and I, are in Canada), assuming the price break was worth it. I have observed, though, that a number of posters think that Plitrons are overpriced, so I don't know how many people would be interested.

This thread suggests a discount of about 25% may be feasible. Post expressions of interest and if enough people want some, I'll approach Plitron for a price.

I'm not too concerned about the heatsinks, but if there were decent savings on Plitron transformers, I would definitely be interested, especially since I have 2 to build.

Got my package today. On first look everything looks OK bur I need something better for the 2.2 and 4.7 ohm resistors, and the fuseholders I ordered are covers only. The speaker relays are only 8 Amp but I think they will work with contacts paralleled. Now I need to order $.40 worth of fuse clips :(

Just FYI.....

Hi Bob,

pin spacing for fuseholders are universal - you can use also miniature 2/10" radial type...

This is by far more timeconsuming than I anticipated, I'v orderd components in hundreds and I'v packed 60 packages with components. It is a real agony when I got one BC556 left and have to recheck all pagages and when my suplier sends 7 piecs short of the BC140!.... I also got 5 leftover resistors with different values either there is missing resistors in packages or I got extra.

Well if anything is missing I'll have to send replacement parts.

Well the major bulk of the packages is finnished now I just have to put the resistor bag, chip bag and the big bag in an envelope and hopefully I can pack and send everythin this week (like I had a life anyway).
