Interested to know what people are using for power supply wiring - ie, from rectifiers to caps to amp. What gauge cable and/or suppliers? Any consensus?

| For less than 60W/ch I typically use AWG18 tinned stranded copper with whatever insulation is hanging around at the time (rectifiers to filters). I don't really want the lowest possible resistance between the rectifiers and the filters, and I tend to use pretty large caps. The 60W/ch amp on my bench right now uses a pair of 19000uF parts- dunno, maybe that's small by this groups standards. IMO, the ground connection between the caps is critical, and I like to use a tinned copper sheet for that, with holes on the centerline to solder the wires in. If I've arranged the amp to do it, I like to mount the caps facing down into the chassis, and run large solid bus wire from the caps directly to the power devices- I strip it out of 12 or 14 gage house wire. That's sort of an air wiring technique like GR did with their old bridges and instruments. If I've got everything PCB mounted, I just use more of the AWG18 stuff. |
