This is my first post on here so I'm not sure if this would be the right area.

Anyway In a couple weeks some friends and I are going to float the salt river it takes about 5 hours from top to bottom and I have been trying to figure out a way to build speakers into the cooler and either connect a head unit or just use a waterproof iPod case and connect them to that.. One of my main problems in the power supply I'm not sure what to use that would last 5 hours and still be cost effective.. after all this is pretty much just a novelty item.
I would appreciate anyones ideas of thoughts.. also input from anyone who may have made one of these in the past...
I would like this to be as inexpensive as possible while still retaining as much cooler space as possible.

Wait, you are going to enjoy the bounty and sounds of nature for 5 hours, and would rather try to drown it out with music?

Your ears should be stapled to your butt as punishment.

edit...

I forgot the smilies   :D

Anyone have any ideas on how to build this?

You could use a car head unit connected to a 12 volt battery pack. some of these things are high capacity, should last 5 hrs no problem.

Why not use a car battery? Float it in a big cooler or make a raft to hold it, a couple of old house speakers from a thrift store or yard sale, and a small 2-channel car amp. Use an RCA-1/8" cable to connect the iPod directly to the amp, and seal the iPod inside something very waterproof... poke a hole in a Tupperware container and seal the cable with generous amounts of hot glue or RTV. The amp will probably have a volume control on it if you need to adjust the volume and don't want to unseal the iPod.
