lovely new CDM-1

Hey people,

I just got my grubby mitts on a lovely CDM-1 as part of an on-going project/idea of making a top loading cd player using this rather wonderful transport.

I know my stuff when it comes to the mechanical aspects of this area but im useless when it comes to anything remotely to do with DACs or even general techy things.

Does anyone know of any good DACs and power supplies?

I'm modding the transport to accomodate a blue LED to ride next to the laser to increase read-out and am also machining out a puck to clamp the discs. The whole transport assembly will probably either be on a small plynth floating in gel or will be bolted down to a block made up of a mixture of rubber dust, lead dust and resin. All of this will be surrounded with a wall of lead 20mm thick plated with pure copper.

What do you dudes think?

I have Philips player model CD304Mk2 , based on this transport.

I was thinking to make complete new power supply for every stage and every chip on analog board , based on superregulators.
Than make a swich for oversampling/nonos work , and new analog stage like Pedjas one based on AD844.

What do you think?

yeah, that makes sense. I've decided that it can't hurt to isolate everything you possibly can and i like your idea about all the power supplies, the only thing is that you will need masses of sheilding (electro magnetic) to counter balance the extra transformers but its no problem.

Nice idea on a switchable DAC too, i thaught about sticking two DACs in the same box, one 16bit up-sampler and a 24/192. be good to play around with that but I'm a bit fussy when it comes to less is more.

Are you sure it's a good thing 😕 It seems only aesthetics!
Laser is light, why add another blu light?
Darkness give best results. Definitely.

Have a look to magnetic floating suspension of CDM and other solutions:
