I'm not as technically capable as most people here so I don't know how worried you might be.
According to my copy of Electronics Buyer, the sole maker of the raw material of the Polycarbonate film used in cap manufacture (Bayer AG), is to stop production. Naturally there is some still out there and stock of caps themselves still exists but when they're gone - They're gone. 😱

If there's a demand, someone will make it. Extrusion-grade polycarbonate resin is still widely available and there are a LOT of film extruders out there.
GE Polymers will be surprised to learn that they are going out of the business.
mix a little bisphenol-A with phosgene and presto -- polycarbonate -- one of the toughest plastics for engineering applications, closures, protective windows etc.

.... phosgene....
Doesn't sound very politically correct and environmentally friendly ! 😉

Very few raw materials for plastics are ... friendly.
I think the cessation of polycarb film manufacture is simply because there is insufficient demand for pricey polycarb caps, which can be readily replaced by polyester or polypropylene in most applications.

yes, I saw more than one manufacturer too, saying that their polycarbonate capacitors will go out of production.
So I got 10pcs of 0.68F 63V polycarbonate caps for 10 Eurocents each, that's sale! It's just sad they only have two different values available...

Personally i favor polyprop. over polycarb. but with the number of 10uF/250v i bought for very little i'll be building with PolyC. till whenever.
