Do you have a source of 16bit 96K data? If not and you only have native 24bit 96K data i.e. 24bit off the disc (DAD,DVD-A) as opposed to out of a digital filter then you will have to truncate 8 bits, a less than ideal situation.
I will be using this DAC for DVD-player as well for CD's. As long as I know DVD's are 16/96 and CD's are 16/44.1. Am I wrong? I do not care about DVD-audio or SACD. If I really want hi-res I do have my turntable rig.

The PCM1704 is the most obvious choice of DAC. As it is mono you will need two. You'll also need an input receiver. AKM and Crystal make suitable devices. The Crystal CS8416 will do. The circuit linking the rx to the dacs can be found here, http://www.geocities.com/nonospcm1704/
As for the analogue output stage, the choice is yours. Some use opamps, some discrete transistors, be they bjt, jfet or mosfet, others use a transformer and or a resistor. As good a place as any to start is the output stage from the Passlabs D1 dac.

If you feed it with 48kHz DVD audio and the DAC *has* to run at 96kHz, then you're technically 2x oversampling... If you feed it with 44.1KHz CD audio and the DAC is running at 96KHz, then you're 2.177x oversampling.
So, do you want the DAC frequency to scale with the input frequency, or do you want the DAC running at 96KHz all the time? The latter will require either an interesting combination of PLL and DSP, or a local clock and a ASRC chip.
