The DIY cable ends have a part of the hood that comes around the connector to retain it. Problem interference with the projector cover. Molded factory ok, I also think skywayfiles2 has found a solution to modify his cables instead of the projector.
Here is what I saw, part of the cable hood made contact before the plug was fully inserted. I was able to get a signal threw but a bit touchy. I ran an unshielded printer extension cable for a quick test of the adapter.

My method could have been improved by scribing lines and carefully making sure I stayed straight in them and so on. This part of my already frankensteined unit has its back to the wall on a shelf about 8 1/2 up. So looks are not too important

Proxima 8300 8400 cable fix
There is a fix that I can do that will make sure the projector will not need to be hacked up. Mgmopar was kind enough to let me know what the problem was that he was having. In several emails I* finally concluded a solution that I have had to use in the past.
*I do want to give Mgmopar a lot of credit since his ideas where extremely close to what I came up with, in fact, almost dead on.
The hoods lip, that holds the connector in place, needs to be removed. To ensure the connector does not just fall out of the hood, there are two solutions to fix this and keeps the cable fully function for the 8400 and 8300 Proxima projectors and still appear good at the same time.
Thanks a million Mgmopar for all your help to find the needed fixes.
