Hi!
As many of us are using PCs as a source for the projectors, I think it would be good if we'd use kind of a standard test images as it's very easy to do so with PCs. So, it happens to be that there is a FREEWARE program that I've been using for years, it is really handy to adjust image brightness/contrast/color balance (there are several test images in the program, really good ones for adjusting), and it can also be used for taking result photos. If we use the same test images, the result photos are much more comparable with each other as then the only factor that makes them differ technically is the quality of the camera used for the photos. Also, the program does not just scale some image to the resolution of the PC, it generates them itself so it can also be used for comparing detail.
So here is the link to the program:
http://www.programming.de/download/testscreens.zip
The image attached is a photo of my own projector project with this program.
YEAH RIGHT, I WISH IT WOULD BE AS GOOD AS THE ATTACHED PHOTO 😉 .... IT IS JUST SCREENSHOT OK?! Just to show you how the basic test image of the program mentioned looks like. That screenshot one could be used with with most of the external dvd-players if burned on a CD in a jpg or tiff format, I guess, so I'll attach a as little compressed jpg as possible to the next message.
I'll post real ones of my own setup to this new result thread as soon as someone loans me a decent camera. If people start to use this program to take result pictures and post them to this thread, maybe this thread could be made sticky? Yes?
Well... I hope to see lots of result images 🙂
Regards
HB

Well, here is the JPG one... the file size on this forum is so darn small that it had to be compressed quite much so the quality isnt really excellent :\
I recommend that if you want to use this with an external dvd player or xbox or ps2 or such, then take the totally clean PNG one from the first post and convert it yourself to tiff or jpg with no compression if you can.

Hmm, just to get things started, here is an about 1,5 years old result picture that was taken when I was trying to get my project work with 250w halogen.
So this here is a Sony VPL-SC50 retrofitted with 250w EVC halogen, the screen is painted with silver paint and the size is about 60", and the camera is total crap.

heya tiarb, i beleve they do somthing similar in the german forum, great idea, though with cams, some are deceiving, some cams pick up the projected image much brighter then it realy is, ive noticed this with a web cam of mine, also exsposure times makes a diff to an image, whats my point? dont always beleive what you see, an image my not be as bright as what some people see it as in a picture.
After building a few projectors you will soon see what to expect, and will soon know what pictures to beleive in or not. Also having somthing next to the projected image can help us determine how bright the image realy is, though as with exsposure times another thing is some cams are more sensitive to diff colour temps then others, if its more sensitive to a 4200k colour then a 5300k colour, then a 4200k projector projected image will seem brighter then a 5300k projector projected image, only a decent cam can realy give us an acurate shot, im talking a $500+ cam.

ace3000, yea that's all true, but we all love result pictures despite all that
Too true, thats what gives us motivation to build the thing in the first place lol

I loaned a camera and here it is finally, a test screen result image of my 150W MH retrofitted Sony VPL-SC50. I am pretty sure I'll be getting better results after cleaning up all the optics that the 250w halogen burned up inside the projector, I had already cleaned some before this image was taken and it is much better then it was before cleaning. Also the LCD's have some smudges on them that I dont seem to be able to clean with just cotton sticks. I'd probably have to just be brave and take the whole optics setup apart and hope I can align the three LCD's back so that the pixels still land on top of each other :\
