Same HiItachi panel as the Lilliput?
TX18D11VM1CAA - That's from the Lilliput in the german how-to PDF.
Your model looks the same(hard to tell exactly from the pics though.
Any deal on the Phoenix? Or about the same as the EBay Lilliput?
Also what kinda inputs does your panel have?

thanks,
David
thanks,
David
The effective resolution of this panel is 800X480. Not sure yet about the contrast ratio. Excellent for DVD I would think. I paid $166.00 + $20 for shipping so $186 total on Ebay. I did find some place selling them for regular price for $169.99
Just has 2 RCA type video inputs, switchable. Nice on screen menu system with adjustments for contrast, brightness, gamma ect., i can't remember the rest. Included a remote.
I stopped dissasembly where you see in the pic for the night. I did not want to go any further before hearing input on how to handle the single ribbon cable. I transferred the parts to some anti-static bubble wrap.
Easy to dissasemble so far. I'll keep the pics coming as soon as I continue.
Here it is at overstock.com but can be had for less. PD-186 is the model

ace, what is the difference between the 2 controllers? if the lilliput is vga what is the phoenix? how does the RCA input compare to say a s type input. I think I remember reading somewhere on this forum that you want to stay away from composite input, so this should be ok on that.
David
oh yea, I can't get one of those trees to grow in the backyard either. LOL!

not much bud in the way of the controller, basically just menu functions and what inputs it can take, as for the comp vid yeah its ok but svid is better, if u want true colouring and contrast vga is the only way to go but with that lcd on comp vid with a dvd player u wont be disapointed, comp vid compared to vga is blury, the vga is razor sharp, but i wouldnt worry to much as u dont have vga and u wont see the diff lol.

Got my fuijion lens today, i was a little dissapointed that it had light scratches all over. CLeaned inproperly over the years i guess. I know it's a used surplus place, do you think it will be o.k. to use? It did not seem to effect the flashlight i shown through it to test it out. You could clearly see the reflector on the wall.
I've been working on the box tonight, i'll tackle the LCD again this weekend.
I'm at $350 on this project now, should have been around $275 but i have an extra 5.6" LCD sitting around!
I hope you all have a productive weekend on your projectors!

Made a quick call to the Surplus Shed about the scratches on my lens. I spoke with a women who was very nice and understanding. We both knew that this is surplus goods but also recognized some lenses would be better than others and they try to set aside the bad ones. She quickly told me she would ship me out another one.
Customer service was excellent!

I'm going to try to get further on it tonight(LCD).
here is a collage of my box so far.
I powered up the light box to test it. It worked but the transformer buzzed quite a bit, and light output looked to be about 25% i woul guess. Everything" connected properly. Is there a ramp up time for these bulbs?

If thats a big MH bulb i'd say give it at least 15-20 minutes b4 u assume it's at full brightness, those big boys take a minute to get there. Your hum might get quieter after the bulb is up to speed. maybe. I believe that's one reason some prefer an electronic ballast.
I like the big dogs myself, so keep up the good work and lets see what yer baby can do.

Hey thanks for the suggestion to wait longer. I had jammed the leads into a computer power cord to test it, they must have been loose or poor connection,. causing the buzz. I tried a different test cord and she lit up wicked bright after about 5 min. I had to put my sunglasses on. The buzz dropped to an acceptable level.
Phew!
I was worried about a faulty trnsformer or something.
