If a couple of Morel tweeters are lying around...

Hello all,

I had 2 Morel MDT-30 tweeters and I decided to add some cheap woofers to make a not so critical set of speakers. It ended up in a good speaker for the money though. I used Audax HP210G0, and the combination sounded good, so I measured, tweaked and listened a lot for 3 months. I think you may give it a chance. It is only 20lt and it goes strongly down to 40Hz with no boom. Very good midrange too.

Best Regards

...

...Forgot to mention its a 7 OHM load with 90dB SPL sensitivity. The reflex tube is 50mm diam. (ABS plastic) by 90mm long and is put on the back panel. It plays loud with my 6L6GC 20W Class A triode in a 30m2 space. I recommend the impedance compensation zobel in the input too.

Thanks

amendment

Hello,

In case somebody will try it at a point in time, here are my final modifications.
I traded bass for presence and goes very nicely. Even more satisfying projection and sense of loudness.
The shown FR is taken with 180ms gated impulse mls technique so you can see the actual room extension and floor path cancelation for the given mic distance. Use 60 cm stands with the speaker upsidedown. The offaxis is pretty good too. The reflex is in the back panel not changed in dimensions. Keep at least 50cm distance from the woofer dustcap to backwall.

Regards

Salas

no air but fair

The Morels are good in general. Forget they will ever deliver air in the last octave. But can be very meaty in the mids and helped me keeping the dispersion right by breaking no sweat down to 2Khz I crossed em with the 8''.

....

Unfortunatelly I havent kept the raw tweeter response in my files, so I have to take out the crossover to measure again...but if you check
http://www.geocities.com/kreskovs/MTMA-crossW.html

or/and

http://www.lippaudio.org/SpeakerIII/Tweeters/index.html

I think the raw responses taken by those guys are very close to what I got on my box. You can see the general energy drop and sinelike hump in the last octave as in my full speaker meauserment so they must be quite valid.
Only in my case these trits are accentuated a bit cause I listen upside down on the woofer axis because the lobing is much better.

bigger box

....since I built these speakers only not to waste the cabinets and tweeters I had, I restrained to 20 litres. Best volume is 30 litres, same reflex pipe. It will add significant bass extension.
