Free OB speaker design service Sydney

Hi,

I have got this bug bitting me. I just want to design and build more OB speakers for the fun of it.

If you are in Sydney and want to build some hi-end open baffle loudspeakers, please send me a private message, or post your questions here.

I am only interested in using high end drivers, such as those offered by Scanspeak, Seas. However, if you are interested in buying my second hand set of Peerless HDS drivers at below retail price I can also give it a go, as the HDS sounds quite good.

I have built two pair of OB speakers and have learnt a lot from them. I have got some ideas and want to experiment them. However, I am not in a position to fund such a hobby indefinitely, as the previous two projects already cost me AUD$18,000 for the speakers alone. So in a way, I am looking for somebody to fund my hobby. On the other hand, you can get an outstanding OB speakers at the cost of drivers, parts and cabinets. The two pairs I built compete well to commercial speakers above AUD$20,000, and I expect any up coming ones would be equal or better.

So if you want to spend a few thousand dollars and get the sound of $20,000+, or you are interested in OB speaker designing and building, and you are not taking this chance for any commercial purposes, I am happy to give you a hand. This service is 100% free.

Regards,
Bill

I'm always open to suggestions on my new build, but I've already decided on drivers and baffle size so the help I need is with XO from mid toi tweeter.
Unfortunately funds for this project have dried up, as I am still looking for work.

Looking forward to your comments on my build when I get further into it.
Regards
Ted

OB Line arrays plus helper bass

Can you explain the disadvantages or possible problems if I splay out small wide-range drivers either side of main axis in a short or long line array? I posted previously in fullrange forum, received 121 views, but no suggestions. I appreciate that line arrays produce cylindrical wavefront, but I was hoping for better mid to high frequency response over a wider angle.

Best example I could find came from Elliot Sound Products hybrid ESL isobarik bass loudspeaker. http://sound.westhost.com/projects-b.htm where designer splayed out four ESL panels to increase dispersion. Another example was BOSE PA speaker which uses linearray plus subwoofer(s). In my case, 3" midranges will be mounted OB in vertical array like Fostex "tallboy" design, but probably with more middrivers (6-8) each channel. I also have some ribbon tweeters which will come in around 5KHz+ so combing from mids should not be a problem.

ANY comments welcome.
