Suggestions / help wanted; low section in three-way ?

Hello all !

I'm about to embark on a new loudspeaker project,
for use in our livingroom (think WAF).

Now I´m hooked on fullrange / broadband drivers, but I find
them somewhat lacking in the bass department.
Especially in smaller enclosure sizes...

So it's going to be a two or three way, using the Philips AD9710/M
for mid / tops, (maybe) complemented by a tweet

For the low-end, I got a pair of vintage Philips Woofers,
ticonal magnets, rubber surrounds, with these specs:
(measured by meself, average of two drivers)

Fs 30 Hz
Re 7.7 ohm
Qms 4.27
Qes 0.96
Qts 0.78
Vas 181 ltr.
Sd 0.049 m2
Mms 52 gr

Now, what are my options ?
TL, reflex, aperiodic, sealed ?

For size I'm restricting myself to ~ 200 litres maximum,
and they are to be driven by a DIY single ended tube amp,
approx. 8 watts. I'm not after party-level SPL's, just clean,
well articulated bass. -3dB at 30 Hz would be nice though...

Anyone care to help me ?

Greets!

A high Qts dictates a much higher Vb than Vas for smooth/extended response, so at 200 L either an aperiodic or LRT sealed are your only viable options IMO. That, or OB placed near corners. I mean for an 'ideal' aperiodic it wants a ~13 ft^3 bulk.

BTW, for my records, which model Philips is this and any idea what its Xmax is?

Ad1256/w8

Hi GM !

thank you for your reply.

The drivers I'm talking about are the AD1256/W8

These were done in a time T/S parameters didn't exist.
although it's widely believed these drivers have an Fs of 20Hz.
Which, understandable, makes them wanted (at least here in Holland)

Still I needed the other T/S parameters so I measured them,
and this is what I got:

driver one:
Fs 31.8 Hz (39ohms)
Qms 4.38
Qes 1.09
Qts 0.87
Vas 164,66 liters

driver two:
Fs 28,4 Hz (46ohms)
Qms 4.14
Qes 0.82
Qts 0.68
Vas 197.57 liters

Is this deviation common or is it a sign these babies were once spanked too hard ? :smash:

I only got them last week, so I don't know their history...

Hello all !

First of all I want to wish you all a very good 2009.

I the last couple of days off from work,
I studied possible cabs for my Philips drivers.

Would the Rogers Monitor, like in dutch REMO's kit,
be a good guess for the AD1256's ?

Cheers,

Empee
