In order to prove that, yes, I do actually make stuff, I have finally borrowed a digital camera.
Sometime shortly after Christmas I put together these TangBand w4-657s full-range ported speakers. I am pretty impressed at how they turned out. With a little finishing advice from Al (RAW), I think they turned out pretty good looking.
I am pretty busy right now, but I'll list a few interesting details and spec-type numbers when I have the time.
I haven't properly compressed the photos on the website, so it may take a little while to download. Sorry, I'll fix that later.

they are nice-looking.
could you explain a bit about the construction? mdf? 2 layers? did you use a router for the corners?
and what is the finish?

ps - oh yeah, how do they sound?

I like it! How does it sound?
Im beginning to plan for a project such as this but I have a question for you (Not an ace at loudspeakers): If one retained the inner volume could it be built with different proportions given that the baffel have the same width (I understand the concept of baffel support and diffraction)?
Im thinking tall but not so deep.

Looking good.
Not a finish ya.
So sound lets here it??
What volume did you end up with and ported length?
The MTM I still have not finished into veneer yet.Maybe some day.
Just loaded to the hilt with the Lock miter sub cabinets on the go for CSS.

It's 1 layer of 3/4" mdf. About 14.5"tall x 6.25"wide x 9.5"deep (outside dimensions). About 8.1L tuned to around 62Hz. The terminal cup and driver are both countersunk. There is no internal bracing. The joints are sealed with caulking on the inside. All of the inside walls are lined with shag wool felt, which I bought for 99c at the fabric store. The port is 2" ABS piping which is sunk halfway(3/8") into the rear panel. The wood outside the portis rounded over to achieve a "mini-flare". And a 1/2" round-over with a router on all edges. The finish is "Al's Truck Bed Liner"(TM). It's the same as the finish on the ELF 1.5's from creativesound.com. It is such a great finish. It is easy to apply, cheap, fast-drying, and it looks quite professional.

I'm not a pro either, but I don't think adjusting any of the dimensions a inch or two will make a big difference. I never really took the dimensions into account, other than for cosmetic purposes.

Those MTMs are pretty cool. They sound pretty amazing. I couldn't believe that nobody bought them at John's house. I think that if they were finished, you could sell them for double what you were asking. I think a most guys would be too scared to bring raw MDF home to their wives.
So... Sound?
Well, they were intended to be used as computer speakers with no sub. So, I was willing to sacrifice a little flatness (just a bit) for some extra bass.
Another possible concern is that the T/S specs I used(from the datasheet) may not have been horribly accurate. I didn't have access to measuring equipment. (but I'm building my Wallin's jig now)
They are run full-range with no filter of any kind. The lack of tweeter causes them to sound not especially "bright". The lack of high frequencies(15k+ ?) isn't such a big deal considering the application. Everyone in my family, and my girlfriend, and my sister's boyfriend have listened to them and none of them noticed unless I pointed it out to them and/or A/B tested them with my other speakers.(keep in mind that they are not crazy sound freaks like all of you guys!) If I was going to use these as my main speakers, I would probably have used a tweeter. Since adding a tweeter and an XO didn't fit my design goals(easy/cheap), I passed.
So, that said, they do sound pretty damn good, especially for the well under $100can ($68usd) they cost me to build. They have a surprising amount of bass for such little guys. And, as per the design goal, they kick the pants off of any commercially available computer speakers. I am quite satisfied.
P.S. Al - thanks for all the help with the finish. I'll be sending you some pics pretty soon.
Maybe we can get them measured with MLSSA some time.
I thought you would be able to do the liner spray.
Some on line have put there noise up at it but it is a fast eco and durable finish for the cost.
And if finished correct looks like yours $1,000000000000000.00
I will send you a filter I have on file for the fullrange if you want to send me a email.
you know me if it is TB related I will have a idea.
This was done by a teacher at UBC who got the first order of 657S from Nuera.
And sound is clean and just a little BSC also.

And the MTM.
You never know these may work out to be a CSS sold kit some time.
As you said the design is unreal.Just not finished.
Ya selling the MB1 for that price was not the best but I just have to many speakers Now up to 21 sets.
And the wife said STOP
Do not know why.
So I have a lot more to go.
On another topic.
Another meet coming up.
We will have the Shiva kit,Temp kit and a few others ready for a show along with the MTM I am building cabinets for John.
Using 2 of the FAL drivers and the G2.The G2 is the pick to start but I am making a drop in tweeter panel for tweeter changes.
These cabinets can be seen on the FAL link.
Angled fronts.
One side 16" the other 19" 56" tall with 6 sheets of Blackhole in them.
http://www.sibatech.co.jp/FAL/FAL Top.htm
And the FAL $895.00USD each.
so for a MTM $$$$$$$$$$$

I used this stuff:

Walmart. About $5usd for an aerosol can. You just spray it on.

RAW said:
Yup. Raw is the pro, so I'll have to agree. If anything, I would think the rough texture of the finish might have an effect.(but don't ask me what that effect is!)
Does anyone know where to get this truck bed coating stuff in Europe? Are there any similar alternative products?

Good to know!
Did you do any sanding or apply any primer before applying the Truck Bed Coating?

Anyone in UK tried this stuff? They told me it's been used in speakers.
