I need any info about old SS drivers-21W38 and D3804;
both have Alnico magnets,and originally they are from old ITT boxes (probably when SS was just OEM supplyer).
btw ITT box have D 235 SD mark.
looking at xover (attached),and box (in fact-two chaimbers in one box,with sorta variovent bariere in between),seems that whole speaker is SS made.
any info?

Dear Choky;
A million thanks for your enthusiastic mail.
You are right; they were great speakers, the old Scan-Speak.
We cannot supply you with any parameters for the drivers as they come from a
time where Thiel and Small had not yet made their rules about parameters.
The speakers are made out of intuition and experience. My father was in
charge of Scan-Speak when your speakers were made, and he lived happily
without knowing about T/S.
Best regards

Subject: few questions ,please!
Dear Sirs!
I'm for long time admirer of Dynaudio and Scan-Speak loudspeakers and
philosophy behind them.
Some time ago,I just stumbled on pair of old ITT boxes,without knowing
what to do with them,but they are cheap and looking good enough for
,say,test boxes purpose;
After I pulled drivers from boxes, (just one bass have small hole in
cone,which I easily repaired) I was pretty shocked- I saw Alnico magnets
and very familiar marks on them : bass is 21W38 and tweet is D3804.
My surprise was even bigger when I realize that xover is series-type and
that box is of aperiodic type!
After that ,I spend few days in web searching,but without any luck; for
me ,logical next step was to type one short post on www.diyaudio.com ,in
"loudspeaker" sub-board.
this is what I type in my first and second post on Diyaudio:
"I need any info about old SS drivers-21W38 and D3804;

Even with this posts,nobody answered,and I have no any further info...
But-just few days ago,I find your home page,and -on "Ejvind-75 years" I
realized that
my guessings are in right direction!! Hehe-here is big smiley! 😉
I also attached few pics in Diyaudio posts,one is xover schematic and
other is Thiel-Smal parameters ,which I measure;
You can find also this two pics attached.
well-what I can say-I'm just thrilled with sound of these old spks!
I change old electrolytics,rechecked twice sealing of drivers in box,and
even tried sort of variovent on back of boxes;
even if they are 4 ohms,they are very tube friendly,and I use tube amps
with them.
I wrote this to you from two reasons:
first-just to share my thrill with yours ancient speakers,and
second-to ask have you any TS data (maybe different than mine?) for that
old speakers,and-maybe some tip for better boxes
anyway-I send you warm greetings!

Yes, I agree.
A couple of pics would be fine.
Even if problem is solved by now.
Scan-Speak drivers and tweeters are excellent for Hifi.
They are Very good!

Hey Zen. Good find. The original Dynaco A-25s had Scan Speak drivers in 4 ohm. Possibly the same drivers you have.

Now how about some pics. And a report. You know I am chasing this info.
Cheers,
Geoff.

I think that you saw them in "aperiodic enclosure " thread.....
what else is interesting for you......dimensions?
just say........😉
Hi Zen, I stand corrected. The black ones. Those cabs are similar to the Dynaco A-35.
Apparently the dual chamber yields even tighter control. Have to try that soon.

Geoff.

I'll try tomorrow to dismantle one and measure exact dimensions , and post them here,along with few additional photos
