Hi,
I have an old EAR 859 Kit - fully built - that I am looking to part with. The Kit was originally sold via HFN/RR in the mid 90s (95 I think but am not sure) after the initial release of the amp by EAR and was purchased and built at this time.
Anyway I haven't used the amp for a couple of years, it is in storage at the moment, and am looking to sell if there is anyone interested.
The kit is complete and plays (last time I powered it up) but developed some annoying hum that is quite audible. I am unsure whether the hum is due to the power supply caps degrading, DC on my AC line (doubtful as my Transcendent OTL is whisper quiet) or an issue with the mains transfomer? Note that the hum comes thorugh both the speakers and seems to emminate from the power transformer itself too (may mean there is an issue with this transformer).
The hum means that I am unable to sell this item to a dealer or via ebay etc, but I am sure that a diyer with the appropriate skills could restore this to it's original glory!
The kit features the EL509 TV Sweep tube (pentode) in 'Enhanced Triode Mode' with a cascade PCC88 to drive. If I remember correctly the EL509s are a little old and could do with replacing, however the PCC88s are reasonably new Philips types.
The case is all intact with no significant scratches etc. Tube cages etc are all present. The brass selector and volume knobs could do with a good polish but other than that looks very good. No mods have been made from the original spec.
The only thing that is missing is the actual instruction manual for the diy build of the amp. I do have a copy of the circuit diagram though and also a reprint of the original KK review in HFN/RR (sourced from this forum of course).
Anyway I am off to see my parents this weekend where the amp is in storage and if there were any interested parties I could bring it back down to the London area.
Note this weighs in at around 20kg or so any postage would have to be added if required.
If anyone is interested then I would be happy to consider offers?
Many thanks,
Ian

Wow what a nice amp:
Out of my budget I'm afraid...
An externally hosted image should be here but it was not working when we last tested it.
