Hi, I've got an old Sharp XV-710P projector that still works incredibly well with it's original lamp despite it being ancient. The lamp however has the occassional bad day, like going very green.
Right now though, it's running well but the lamp will be going bye-bye soon I fear and there's no way I'm going to pay £483 for a new one for a more than ten year old projector.
When it does eventually burn out, I want to modify the housing and fit a really cheap compatible lamp to experiment. I can find very little information on this projector and don't even know how many lumens it has or the wattage of the lamp. The only mention of wattage, says the projector uses 175w and I haven't been able to find out the lamp wattage by doing some checks yet.
I am very well versed, electronically speaking and want to remove the old lamp from the reflector and attach a cheap one (a really cheap one, that's easily bought) that would hopefully be a little brighter even.
If anyone has any info or thoughts please get in touch. There must be something you could do to modify it.
Thanks
dave

Hi!
I have a Sharp XV-c20E and i bought it very cheap a few weeks ago. The lamp exploded when i first started it. 🙁
Well, i was counting on that. I replaced the lamp with a 75w halogen floodlight (36 degrees) and tried it. (the light was connected to a 12v source of course! The projector gives several thousand volts when fireing up, so be very carefull and neve get close to the contacts for the original lamp.. You ought to know this is you read this forum). I was amazed! 🙂 It was not bright but watchable in a dark room, for 2$. I have to add that i first cleaned the glass from the exploded lamp and also removed an IR-filter that was burnt. Later i tried another lamp, a OSRAM Decostar IRC (10$) 10 degrees which only uses 50w, but keeps in a part of the IR so it glows as a 75w. The projector was much cooler. However, i figured that the original reflector ought to be the best so i then bought a Osram Halostar (same as Decostar but wihtout the reflector, 5 $) and replaced the MH lamp in the original reflector. Ite was tricky to adjust it right in the reflector so i got a focused beam, but when i finally got it right i was happy. It is so bright i think it comparable to the original. The XV-c20E only gives out about 60 Lumen when new.

I forgot to tell you about the tricky part. The projector senses if the original lamp is broken or removed, so it shuts itself off in 5 mins. However i found a way of bypassing this. There is a small two-wire connector which connects to a small card on the ballast part of the proj. Simply disconnect this. It gives out a 5v signal which you can measure. If you want pics (these sharp projectors could look similar) ICQ me..
Good luck!
Good luck!
LX-D300U JVC Projector.
My post in not related to general nature of the post but I have above projector and it only gives blue screen with FILTER word on the right bottom. I have separate post also, thought you might have a hint. What could be wrong? Lamp is fine it seems to have three Red, Blue and Green type different LCDs etc. Any idea how to go about fixing it. It seems after opening way more useful that what I thought. Has zoom , these three LCDs and 250W , 55v with reflector metal halide lamp which I am thinking of using in my normal system. Then the blast also is part of this whole projector.

Thanks for all the info so far.
The xv710p seems a totally different projector compared to the xv-c20e. But when the lamp goes, I'll definately investigate the options you mentioned to try out as I think the lumens from the xp710p is low and around the figures you mentioned.
About the LXD300U :
I had a problem with the xv710p blue screen as well. It wouldn't go away when a signal was present. You saw about 5 seconds of the image then it went to the blue screen.
I just pressed the button on the top to turn this function off and not to allow the blue screen and it's done the trick, so far.
Maybe your projector has a fault in the switch for this option ?
Not sure about the word 'filter' being displayed, can only assume it's something to do with it neading cleaned or replaced.
