Subwoofer basket/magnet interchangability?

How interchangable are subwoofer baskets and magnets? Even if the mounting holes on the magnet dont line up, I'm sure you can drill through the basket and then mount the magnet? Then use the coil and cone from the speaker that suits the basket as long as it is the same size as the magnet with that setup?

I have a pair of atomic apocalypse AP10D's and they have fried coils. I also wanted to upgrade them to a larger size woofer - 15 preferably. Now Atomic australia want $500 for a pair of recone kits supplied only, and I'm sure if I use a basket to suit a DD woofer or similar I can get a pair of DD recone kits for $300 or so.

I just sold my DD3515 and Crossfire VR1000D to focus on these atomics. I believe a pair of AP10D's would get louder than a single DD3515 due to the amount of power they can take daily, so that's why I did it. I would just rather another 15" (or two 😀) woofer again.

Well I got a bit creative today... Soundstream XPro12 basket with Atomic Apocalypse magnet, and I put the coil in and the spider sits on the soundstreams basket absolutely perfectly. The atomic has a ring that goes around the double spider so it can be perfectly glued/screwed onto that basket. The cone I cut up the rest of the soundstream cone and put it around with a new rubber surround. I reckon I could make a new cone from fibreglass.

What's the worst that could happen once I put it together? Should I test it with DC Volts first? 9v I got told? I never done that with a sub before... will continue to research...

Great, thankyou! The two 10"s did 151db on 3kW or so. The APSPL10D's currently and have held the Australian Street B SPL record for a couple years straight now. Every other record is held by DD!

I really love this woofer... I call them my little bundles of joy, but the 2x 10's in a big sedan are just too small. If this turns out well for me then I will install two new coils, get another basket and make two custom fibreglass cones.
