hello people,
a friend would like to build a small two way. (a minmonitor i suppose)
he asks me what i would advice, and so i come to here
we have already looked around and found some designs
but first the necessairy data.
1)it has to be small: max 30cm high; 20cm wide, 25cm deep
2)money is not really a problem, but offcourse this is not a true
high end project (why not: see next point)
3)he is gonna hang them in a corner on the wall: i wonder if it makes
sense to build an expensive minimonitor if you don't place it in the room.
i mean: when you put a speaker in a corner against the wall, there will
be a certain point where the higher costs of the drivers makes no that much
difference: or am i wrong. i expect that you run very fast into the limitations of the placements of the speakers and ruling out expensive drivers.
4)he likes bass; a minimonitor with bass, that is a bit contradictory, but hey he needs a bit bass, the corners will help offcourse.
designs i was looking at
1)a cheap one: troels gravesen peerless
http://www.troelsgravesen.dk/Peerless_HDS830860.htm
2)a much more expensive troels one:a seas one
http://www.troelsgravesen.dk/W15.htm
2)a few at tony gees site
the small hatt
http://www.humblehomemadehifi.com/HATT-III.html
so that's i was looking at, but if somebody knows a better design,
let's hear it. the biggest problem i think is the placement in the corner
of these mini beauties, they will loose a lot of their magic.
thanks people

I have a pair of these and they produce astonishing levels of bass when placed close to a wall and they still sound good http://www.acoustic-design-magazin.de/magazin/html/ms2_ms5
The only disadvantage is of course that you have to buy the kit from Udo to get the right values for the crossover.

still it's good to see that they produce much bass.
i'll try to convince the guy
