plate load ccs ala gary p question

I loaded the first stage of my phonostage with a cascode ccs based on gary's doa site.

Funny thing is the battery biasing the base of the lower transistor goes flat after a while (long while measured in days)

With the phonostage not powered up, I can measure voltage across the sensing resistor and I calculate a drain of 0.9mA which is what the ccs was designed to pass.

Does this make sense?

As long as there is a path for current to flow the battery will go flat over time. The implication here is that before it does the operation of the ccs may be affected.

I don't have the schematic since the site seems to be gone now, perhaps you can post it if not in violation of copyright.
