1.0 Introduction

This article is used to organize a burn-in test for interconnecting cables, as discussed in the following thread:

http://www.diyaudio.com/forums/everything-else/156207-burn-speakercable.html

Initially the discussion was about speaker cables, but for testing purposes it was agreed upon that interconnects make an easier testing platform and the results applies to both cases.

There are several people who claim that with the right audio chain and a trained ear one can differentiate through careful listening between interconnecting cables that were subjected to a "burn-in" procedure and interconnecting cables that were not. And of course there are many people who claim this is impossible.

No scientific evidence has been put forth yet by either side of the debate, hence this effort to organize a test. The objective of the test is to find a person who claims to be able to reliably classify interconnecting cables into two classes: burned-in or not burned-in. The classification is to be done by listening alone, using whatever audio device the tester wishes and has access to. The quality and type of test cables should also be satisfactory to the tester. In other words, all conditions of the test should be ideal to the tester for the task at hand, the classification of test cables in the two classes mentioned above.

3.1 Donations

Some costs are incurred and the entire enterprise cannot be supported by one individual. Anything you can donate will be helpful. The money will be used, at the moment, to cover shipping costs.

3.1 List of donations
I (ikoflexer) have taken the liberty to add to the list those who have said they'd donate something specific. Please feel free to take yourselves out of the list if you change your mind, or add yourselves to the list if you agree to help and you're not on the list yet.

4.0 Setup

4.1 Cable type

4.2 Burn-in procedure

4.3 Test Part 1

Two pairs of cables of the type listed in section 4.1 will be sent to the tester. They will be correctly labeled as A not-burned-in, and B burned-in. This is to give the tester the opportunity to experience the two types of cables and to report if the cables and burn-in procedure is acceptable.

4.4 Test Part 2

Twelve pairs of interconnect cables will be sent to the tester(s), individually labeled, but not classified. The tester(s) will assign each cable to one of two classes, A not-burned-in, and B burned-in.
