Hi all,
after ordering the DAC with amanero module i would prefer to fit my pi directly to the DAC via the Input where the amanero is plugged.
So far i understand the amanero module is also connected via i2s. So this must be possible.
Does anybody here know whether i am right to think so. One should only know the right pins to connect to.
Greetings

I personally wouldn't use a Pi, because it hasn't got a descent onboard clock, but you are right. It is possible to use a Pi instead of the Amanero. You could even connect both if you use a multiplexer like TP's OTTO, but you need to provide some way to switch between the Amanero an Pi yourself (which is no rocket science).Hi all,

The pin assignment is defined by the Amanero's header, thus:One should only know the right pins to connect to.
rPi pin 3 BIT_CLOCK to pin 4 DAC
rPi pin 4 WORD_CLOCK to pin 5 DAC
rPi pin 6 DATA_OUT to pin 3 DAC
rPi pin 7 GND to pins 13,14,15 DAC (use short ribbon cable, interleave 3x gnd wires)

I doing it with a Doede dac, but many others have done it with ess dacs, including the originator of the open appliance thread above.

Hi guys,
thank you very much for the comments.
Until now i use a pi with the hifiberry i2s DAC.
It plays quite nice and the hires stuff is no problem. The resolution is very good.
But the trebles are too soft and the soundstage not deep.
In these criteria my Mephisto/Audionote DAC2 is much better, nevertheless it misses some details.
Because the pi is not good for more than 24/96 res and usb out, I thought it would be better not to go over the amanero and stress the pi.
@Corpius: it would be really cool to use both because outputting of all my sources over the new DAC in unique manner would be the best.
@linuxfan: thank you for the pin assignement.
@palmito: thanks for the links. I used first Raspyfi, now i tried Runeaudio with self compiled kernel for i2s support for my own. Until now it runs fine for two months up without problem.

This does not use shunt regulators but normal linear.
This have a long I2S bus so this will get many hi-frequency noise.
This cannot drive directly headphone.
Output stage use feedback.
