With the high sound resolution of this DAC, I have a feeling that my amp can't keep up with it. I‘m thinking of upgrading the LM7815 and LM7915 power regulators that are powering the preamp to extract more details. Do you think it is possible for Quanghao to produce some 3-terminal shunt regulators (based on the IV Stage HAK-shunt design) for us to upgrade our LM7815/7915? Thanks 🙂

I suggest you to eliminate the pre-amp
I suggest you to eliminate the pre-amp
It did come across my mind but overall I'm quite satisfied with my (integrated) amp with attenuator knob that I use a lot. Guess I'll have to wait untill the next best solution show up. Thanks.
I am using my DAC as a pre-amp now, replacing my Arcam C31. It does sound better! However, there is a hum on my loudspeakers when there is nothing playing, and I can just about hear it when playing music. I am pretty sure I cannot hear the hum when the DAC is connected via the pre-amp. I assume this is due to the power supply? Will a mains conditioner help? How about a separate dc peer supply? Can I feed dc to the DAC and output boards? Thanks.

Are you using DAC version 1 with op-amp output stage ?
Are you using DAC version 1 with op-amp output stage ?
Yes.
Yes.
Are you using the ES9018 as current mode or voltage mode ?
Need to check 🙂 I presume current mode as I did not change the jumpers from when I received it.

So, eliminate all current mode jumps (4 jump) and all voltage gain jumps on output module the sound will be better
I use this PIC programmer to upgrade the firmware, cheaper than Pic-KIt.
Search in eBay or Aliexpress for "K150 PICPRO", it costs about $12.67.
.....
I have uploaded the driver, programming software and a simple tutorial here:
BAITE K150 PICPRO Programmer Drv & SW.zip
The previous link is gone, I have re-uploaded these files into another cloud, for those who need it:

In my latest flashing attempt, I can flash it within a minute.

Thanks, no matter what.🙂
This ES9018+Amanero combination is phenomenal, I managed to play DSD 256 and DSD 512 audio on it!
However, when I play DSD 256 audio, the LCD only shows PCM11289Hz,
and when I play DSD 512 audio, it shows PCM22579Hz.
Nothing wrong but it would be much more elegant to show it as "DSD 256" and "DSD 512".
Is it possible to update the firmware to display "DSD 256" and "DSD 512" properly? I noticed that the ESS-Amanero-base LKS DAC can display it. Thanks.
(For info, the official DSD Spec is: DSD 256 - 11.2896MHz, DSD 512 - 22.5792MHz)

Hi Andrea,
Loaded the firmware.
Now the LCD shows DSD 256 and DSD 512 properly!
But it has these bugs:
1) The volume is very very soft (for PCM and DSD). At 0dB, I need to turn my amp knob to 2pm (instead of of 8am) to hear some soft sound . Your last firmware (v64a @ your post #2154) also has this problem. The latest firmware that the volume works properly is v58a @ post #2019.
2) The start-up default source should not be "Optical", it should be "USB link".

Another possible issue:
3) In LCD's Advanced Settings menu, the v58a firmware default is "Bal", while v64a default is "unBal". It is unchangeable.

For change of bal to unbal and vica versa.
Press -s and +s on the frontpanel, at the same time.

1) I have compared now the code 58a and 64a but there is no difference in volume setting so both will work in the same mode
2) to set the default source after the switch-on enter in setting mode and press power/lcd botton to save this configuration
