Strange... Sure looks like dirty heads on an analog VTR.
Try the head cleaning again. If you can't get it going, you may have to have a tech look at it. I killed the heads in my old Sony Hi8 cam just under normal use. And I've seen heads go bad in Pro BetaCam units often enough. Hope that's not it!!

Ok first as “dnsey” recommended I hooked it to an external
monitor and it did the same thing. I decided to try another tape so I did and I got the same result “but” after about 10 seconds of play it slowly returned to normal and now the picture looks fine. I then went back and played the original tape and it looks ok too.
