Hi, newby here and a novice, but I was wondering how to make two small 13V supplies for my Tripath amp.
I could just get two Wallwarts but this is not exactly ellegant!

Any ideas/advice on a compact design that would give me 2 x 13V @ 2 amps each from 240VAC would be most appreciated.

Thanks in advance

Tom

Hi,
15Vac-0-15Vac 60VA or 100VA transformer. 4*1N5402 diode or 6A bridge, +-4700uF smoothing. LM317 & 337 three pin regulators.
Look up the datasheet for rules on connecting, adding local decoupling & bypass caps, sizing of resistors etc.

Although you asked for a 2A supply, there may be a slight performance improvement by making the current capability higher eg.160VA and/or 6800uF

Thanks Andrew, is there such a thing as a minature transformer? Space is at a premium in th ecurrent enclosure....

Hi,
you want 2A.
This forces you to a minimum of 60VA.
That size of transformer is not small.

You could try to find a pair of 2A switch mode PSUs that may be more compact. Then tag your linear regs on the end of that.

There is another thread running just now that the poster has given details of switch mode into smoothing only with good results and no linear reg in between. I think it was the Leach power amp???
