My mum has a pair of old broken Mission 710's and she said she would like them repaired for christmas. There is nothing much wrong with the speakers, the casing and everything is fine but around the edge of the woofers it has erroded and thus I think they need replacing.Picture here. .
What should I do? Do they need taking to a mission specialist, can I put any old woofers in there? What do you adivse, my budget is about £100 ($170ish)
Any help is much appriciated. Thanks in advance.

Replacing with anything? That all depends.... is your mother tone deaf? 
You're best bet would be to inquire with a Mission dealer. Not sure but those models are circa 80's aren't they? Might be hard to get replacements for them. You may even consider relacing them with something else entirely....

I'd try speaking to Mission direct initially - Mission as they may have spares.
If not then I'd contact Wilmslow - Audio and ask if they have any knowledge of a drop in replacement or a unit close to.
The third option I see is to replace the foam surround - something I've got no experience with!

Doubtful that Mission will have any parts for a speaker of that age (close to 25 years old). My inclination would be to re-foam the driver- to replace the rotted foam surrounds. You should be able to take them to most any good speaker re-coning shop, and have the job done for something like $40.00USD or less, each.

I didn't realise they're as old as that. I'm don't think there's many places in the UK that recone (none I know of with my limited knowledge) so the reconing would have to be DIY.
Keep the boxes and stick a proven design in there (if possible) if you get no further advice from elsewhere.
And if all the above seems too much effort/expensive then replace the whole speaker with a budget design.
Mission may have some details with regards the crossover so you may be able to salvage the tweeters if they're useful

ive got a pair exactly the same as that connected up to an old goodmans reciever in my attic to provide music for the workshop ive got up there
The foams on mine are showing signs of age too, although they still work fine. However, the speakers arnt really up to todays standards, sounding slow, warm and muffled although very unfatiquiing it must be said. Even the cabinet are not really that well made. To be honest, you would be much better off spending your £100 on a new pair of missions from richer sounds or the like- i picked up a pair of m72's to take to uni with me for £80 two years ago, i dare say something similar could be had for a similar price.
