Remote Power Supply

I'm interested in building my GC with an external PSU, much like the GainCard with the Power Humpty (love that name)

What kind of power cord would be best to connect the PSU & and the amp, what type of connector?

What would be the max. length of the cable between the two?

Are there any sonic advantages/disadvantages to having a remote PSU, I would be doing this mainly for cosmetics.
