Voltage
I assume you are planning to use a 2 diode full wave bridge rectifier. Actually the VA of the transformer will stay the same but in theory the current rating will not be higher because the wire size will be the same. In practice, you can push it jarder, perhaps to 75% of the original VA except that the transformer will get a little hotter and the regulation will not be as good.
However, you real problem is that when you ut a filter capacitor on the output, you will get about 16V out, not 12.5V because the transformer will charge the capacitors to the peak voltage of the waveform. This will likely over voltage the amp, making it either shut down or may damage it.
