as always: here's the newby wanting everysthing for nothing
I have a philips cd304 mkII (customized)
and a pair of b&w 601 s2 (upgraded)
Now i am lacking a good amp. wouldn't it be sweet t have a tube amp!
can anybody point me to something simple yet powerfull enough (please nothing expensive or fancy)

Costs rise rapidly with increasing power O/P. Good O/P transformers are expensive.
Unlike SS, you can safely use the full O/P of a tubed amp. The approx. 35 WPC PP EL34s yield might be enough for your speakers. If you think you really need more power, a compromise to consider is a tubed preamp combined with a SS power amp. As the 2 V. O/P of a CDP will drive most amps into clipping, all that is required is a buffered (cathode follower) level control. "Games" can be played with a cathode follower's load resistor that cause it to generate some 2nd harmonic distortion. A LITTLE 2nd harmonic distortion added to a CD only system with SS power power amplification is, IMO, desireable.
