Depends on a variety of factors, however, mirror image does have some performance advantages, specifically in that any edge diffraction will be distributed over a larger variety of frequencies. "The edge" is a simulation program that can help you analyze different baffle layouts for minimal diffraction.
If you use Basta (from the same software vendor as the Edge), you can model each driver separately, lay them each out on the same size baffle, and overlay the three. You'll have to interpret the three separate baffle curves, but ultimately you need to do that anyway to be able to tweak the crossovers.
