How concerned should I be about load impedance?

I have come upon a bunch of very well made and well maintained solid-state class A amplifiers (35W/channel into 8 ohms) made in the late 1970s that I would like to use in a multi-amp system to drive low-impedance speaker arrays at very low power levels (I doubt peak levels would ever go far beyond 1 watt, even for the woofers.) These amplifiers are designed (judging from the markings on the amplifiers themselves) to be used with loads ranging from 4 to 16 ohms; however, I estimate that my speaker arrays could have impedances well below 3 ohms. (2.6 - 2.3) Am I just asking for trouble by hooking up such low impedance loads? Or given the miniscule power demands to be placed on the amplifiers, are they likely to tolerate it? THANKS!
