I have just purchaced an X250 and the current meter needle is sitting very close to the half way point at idle.

However, the previous X250 i had always registered a lower reading only slightly above the meters rest point.

Is this a case of a more/less efficient output stage?

thanks

Over the history of the X250 there have been some arbitrary decisions
about where the meter should sit (there is a potentiometer on the inside
to determine that). The final test is the temperature. After an hour or so
the heat sink should be about 25 degrees C. above ambient. In most cases
that means that you should be able to put your hand on the top of the sink
for about 5 to 10 seconds.

As a rule the meter is set to the "X" on the meter plate. If yours is just above
zero, then it should be looked at.
