Hi,

In front of me stands a JBL 4690 cabaret series.
There’s not a lot to find about it at www.jbl.com .

The box consists of a JBL E140 LF transducer and a JBL 2410
HF compression driver.
The crossover is a JBL Model3101A.
It is equipped with an inductor and a capacitor.
The wiring was taken apart when it came in and the fellow who owns it doesn't know how it was wired.
The crossover was replaced with a Monacor DN-20 but the sound wasn’t good.
On the original Xover I have 3 wires:
green, green/black witch says input (4-16ohms); that’s clear to me
Another wire: Yellow, Yellow/black To HF driver; that’s also clear
Last wire consists of 3 wires: White, red and black. How do I connect them to the LF driver?

Anyone? :bawling:

If you connect the red and white together, you get a high-pass filter (second order linkwitz riley).

I think there is one part missing: a variable L-Pad. In that case, all the three wire will be used. Normally the LPad is necessay because you tweeter is more efficient.

Go buy a LPad !! :)

Thanks for the info.
Indeed there is space in the front panel of the box to place a
L-Pad. But it has been removed. I connected the speakers as you can see in the picture. Sounds very reasonable. Can I damage something with this setup?
I’ll try to convince the man to buy an L-pad.

Thanks for the fast and accurate reply

/Hugo
