Default diode tandem for gainclone PS

sorry for the noobie question, here I go

Using MUR860 for the minimalist gainclone PS seems to be the ultimate choice here. As far as I can recall the reason is because it is ultra fast. Can it be any faster? Is there any reason for not using eg. STTH806TTI? It is a cheaper tandem and a bit faster than the Onsemis suggested by Peter Daniel. The datasheet is here .

Its not so much the fastness (except insofar as it effects softness) as the softness that matters here. MUR860s are already plenty fast. IIRC Peter Daniel tested quite a few FREDs and preffer the MURs, but /shrug.

These diodes are faster still, but watch IFSM.
Be sure your foil hat has a good low impedance ground.

If it's not the fastness, but softness, why not use MSR860 ? Is it too slow (120ns)?
What are the important parameters to watch? Or is it just trial and error?

Do we really need 600V and 8A?
