I was just wondering if this could be useful:
120V AC -> 12V, rated for 80W. Wires: there's a black and white for mains, and two yellow (12V) I don't know if this is makes sense, but I was hoping to make a power supply for my CD player or for a clock for my CDP... Would you steer clear due to IKEA KWALITY concerns? Thanks. |

If it is an autoformer instead of a transformer, than it is dangerous.
Not because of quality control , but because an autoformer doesn't have total isolation between the high voltage and lower. I'm not sure how to check, but I imagine one way is to check between the hign wires and low wires in every combination with an ohmeter to see if there is any continuety. If so, you need to also use an isolation transformer, or give up on the idea. |

I don't know if it can help but I have a 40W version that is really hot even when the lamp is powered off.
