Default Halfbridge SMPS with IR2153: Different Halbridge Topologies?

Hello,

I've made a halfbridge offline SMPS with IR2153 and a pair of IRF740.
It works OK by now, I want to implement some useful current sense now.
While browsing on the net, I found another halfbridge topology, different from the standard one (the second one on my attached pic) using just one C.
I've simulated it with PSpice and after that, tested it on my SMPS.
It works actually quite OK.
Can anybody tell me what is it good for? (well, at least one C less??)

Regards, Emil

One reason for using two capacitors is series is to lower the capacitor voltage rating requirement for the decoupler capacitor which usually needs to be connected across the MOSFET totem pole from the top MOSFET drain to the lower one's source. Otherwise it may be OK to connect the second capacitor directly from top drain to lower source.

I`ve build a couple smps via #2 circuit. 1uF/250VAC capacitor with added 6 uH inductance in series with capacitor for resonance with 1st harmonic.
40kHz. works ok.

1st is good for both 115/230Vac operation if I am not mistaken. C2,C3 are those big caps you find in PC supplys (~470uF/200v)
