Default Making USB powered gear, portable??

I have some gear that is USB powered.

How would I convert them to be battery operated/ portable?

I assume the pinouts are standardized?

This is for audio recording type gear.

Is it possible?

thanks-a-watt,

Yes standard... your best bet would be some kind of high efficiency 5V switching regulator that provides power from a 9V PP3 size battery
