I was just using that for convienience, you can use a high speed diode instead.
The oscillator as shown doesn't always start, or keep running, FWIW. Tim

what type of SMPS are you thinking of?
for car amp? car preamp? offline? if you need the first two, I got one in here... http://djquan.angelcities.com/smps.html uses cheap and readily available TL494. |
