I'm working on something slightly more complicated than:

I was just using that for convienience, you can use a high speed diode instead.

The oscillator as shown doesn't always start, or keep running, FWIW.

what type of SMPS are you thinking of?
for car amp? car preamp? offline?

uses cheap and readily available TL494.
