Strange PSU

I have a 24v switching psu that for some reason when hooked up to an amp makes the sound like a distorted mess like a wireless connection dropping in and out at the same time. It reads that it outputting 24v ; when i pull the plug out the music sounds normal for a couple of seconds before the power dissipates.

It did work properly for a while, and i have tested the amp with another psu and it's fine so definitely the psu.

Any ideas would be appreciated..

Turn off at the mains switch and see if the same normal sound for a couple of seconds.

most likely, thanks for that - not much i can do about it but get a new one..

You can flick the on/off switch a few times and if it's in-rush current, because then the capacitors will be charged and the in-rush protection will stop.

Could be.

It could also be the opposite, not pulling enough and so the SMPS enters a burst mode.
