Ok I am new to this so take it easy on me I am a greenhorn,I am going to be getting some Chip amps and other boards that require different voltages and curents.is their a diy or even a assembled board I can get that will do from 9-55 volts and up to 6 amps.I found this on the web something like this but a little beefier,Easy variable voltage power supply
oh and can I also intergrate dual and single supply also into a build.

How about this low-cost unit? I doubt you can really save much if you go the DIY route.

I don't know what happened. I can't seem to make an EBay URL work in the post. Let's try it as a TinyURL:

But will it be any good to compare amps???
I am not sure about what you are asking. Could you please clarify?

thats fine I would prefer a low cost unit already built, thank's
0-60V 5A adjustable is about same price I think, ebay link doesn't work. But will it be any good to compare amps???
well the amps are relativly cheap so I want to evaluate some to see which I will stick with as a main build, and they seem to all have voltages all over the spectrum.

these seem to be my best choice ,What is coarse and fine mean on the voltage and the current?,sorry I dont know.i am going to read up on these units in the morning ,thank's for the help so far.

You need a dual output model with a tracking lock button set in series mode. +/- across, middle taps are the "zero" floating mid-point.when the amp has a v-g-v config. would these lab grade suppllys work on them, and were would the wires go.

With coarse you set "about" with "fine" you home in precisely to your goal voltage output & current limit.
What is coarse and fine mean on the voltage and the current?
The fine knob makes small changes in the value of A or V compared to the changes made when you turn the coarse knob. It is helpful when you operate it as constant current source (C.C.) or constant voltage source (C.V.) and you want to adjust the decimal portion of A or V respectively.
I have a 3A 0 to 30V dual lab supply. That is 0W to 90W per output.
I have not seen a 5A 60A lab supply. That would be 0W to 300W per output.
Instead what about a Variac feeding a 500VA mains transformer? Certainly cheaper.
I have a 2.75A Variac feeding a 100VA 12+12Vac transformer. Great for experimenting with.

Be aware that due to regulation in the variable power supply, once you put the amp in a box with its own unregulated supply the comparison may be misleading. A variac as Andrew suggested would allow a fairer comparison. Or just build one supply at the lowest voltage to suit all the amps.
I think this one will work for me just need to wait for one to be a little less money.actualy the price is worth it I just do not have it though.
