Hi, I need a 30V supply for a Class A amplifier biased at 1.5A. The transformer I have is 25v secondary, which gives me approx 35VDC after rectifacation and filtering ( with a 1.5 A load ). If I use a Pi filter with an R of 3.3 ohms I can get the reqired 30 V at the second C. Are there any problems with this arrangment for Class A ?
Thanks
Alan

Hi,

Essentially I can't see any, unless .....

The question is for a lot of class A amplifiers is what happens
when you run out of current (depending on speaker load ....)

Some enter class B for both voltage swings, some current
limit for one swing and enter class B for the other, some
do a bit of both, and rarely they symmetrically current clip.

Any excess current drawn might need you to uprate the resistor.

FWIW a capacitance multiplier should give you about the same
voltage drop with a lot less ripple (it does not regulate though).
