Inductor design: Minimum or effective area?
 
Hello,

This inductor core has a very different minimum area than its effective area.......

...which one do i use? minimum or effective?.

By the way, I use the core area in the calculation to see if it will saturate.....


I(saturation) = B.A.N/L

B = flux density at saturation = 300mT
A = core area (the subject of this question)
N = number of turns
L= inductance

hello treez

it is more accurate to use the minimum area for flux density saturation (3000 gauss in your case) while use the effective for form factor, reluctance and inductance.
