Default Adaptor question

Hi!
I have an adaptor specified to 7,6v / 600 mA

Can i use this to a unit who have 3 AA 1,5v battery's?
The instrucion booklet tells 7,5 v 200 mA

(The unit is a kind of portable video station.)

One more thing.. Can i reduce the mA with a resistor? I have a big collection.
