Default Disk capacitor replacement/upgrade

Hi friends,

I work on the upgrade of the power supply card ; the device is a Digital to Analog Converter, with a tube output stage.

On the P.S. card, there is a Disk Capacitor, value = 4,700 pF 1,000V for filtering the voltage.
I would like to know a better alternative than a disk capacitor, as many of us tell that these disk capacitor have a poor quality...

What you would recommend ?

thanks !

Why would you want to replace it?
The can introduce distortion into the audio path, but it is in a power supply so it doesn't matter.
They can be temperature sensitive but in this application it does not matter.
The are great to bypass radio frequencies to ground ,that is all they do in this case i think, no need to replace IMHO.

Ceramic disc capacitors work very well when used for the right reason in the right place.

Default not all ceramics are alike, not all circuit components are "in the signal path"

if It is NP0 or C0G type ceramic then it is good enough for direct audio signal path use - better than some films and mica

If the cap is connected across the line and neutral coming from the wall outlet (C1) you can put in an MKT-X2 poly cap there in place of the disc cap. It's there to filter RF and spikes on the AC line. It wont affect the sound in any way other than filtering out RF, more for peace of mind. Spikes in line voltage are not good. I had a short in a rectifier tube the other day - took out my PT, ouch. Could have been an AC spike, all I had in there was a bleeder resistor (to keep me alive - go figure). Disc caps are old school version and have been working fine for a LONG time. Just check and see where the one leg of the disc cap is connected to. If it's connected from line to ground you can sub in a Y capacitor, line to neutral go for an X2 cap.
Cheers,
Bob
