It's somewhat unusual to define the power supply when it isn't yet known what it will need to power. Doable, yes. But unusual. It's fitting the amp to the supply when usually one fits the supply to the amp. It also isn't known as an "isolation transformer" - in technical terms that is a different (though similar) device. You're referring to a step-down transformer. To "drastically reduce the size," the answer is no. There is a limit to how small the transformer can be and still provide x amount of power at 50 or 60 Hz. This is a major reason why switchmode supplies are so popular.
