I would like to design my own inductor for my buck converter using the toroidal inductor from a damaged PC power supply but I dont know whether the wounded wire is capable to hold 25A current or not. And If it is not, what is the suitable gauge of enameled wire? and does the the core of the power supply is suitable for 50 KHz frequency?
Your help will be greatly appreciated elmurry |

Check a wire chart. Use multiple strands.

I hate questions like this. You need to know the characteristics of the core and how to design inductors. If you don't know this, you're out of luck.

Look at the PSU's label, the power rail that inductor was in will have a current rating. They'd probably (unless it was a poor quality cheap product) use inductors rated for a bit more than the current spec'd but not a lot more, there's cost and the PCB real estate left is better used for capacitors.
