DIY mains filter - impressions and tweaking.

I was recommended to have a mains filter for my system. I now listen to fostex fe107 horns or headphones. I just tried to build mains filter today. I used this design.

Mentally I was neutral in expectations. I thought it could get either better or worse. Then I put my headphones, started a song with some nice acoustic guitar and.. WOW! Music went back to life. I started hearing details that I never knew they could exist! The audio was so clean and ear friendly to listen to. I start playing songs I am tired of listening to and discover new and new stuff in them.

My question is - is this an optimal schematic, or it can get better? I'd like to know I have squeezed most of mains filtering the check it out from the list. Thanks!

to be frank about it, these are better used on devices producing noise, like appliances with smps psu's, but they probably have one installed in them already, ref's and aircons also can benefit as well as cfl ligthings.....

Must be very system specific. This particular type of filter never sounded good to me. Are you filtering the entire system or a single component? Digital source?

Could be that your system is particularly sensitive to RFI pollution and the good sides of filtering outweigh the bad.

I'm filtering the DAC and amplifier.

A good filter will stop noise getting in and out. If it appears to degrade sound than either it is doing more than filtering (so not a good filter?) or you like a little noise with your signal.
