Default LTC4365 protection IC

I don't know how many of you are subscribed to Linear Techs news updates, but recently they sent information around this new chip called the LTC4365.

It appears to function as a solid state relay driver and alters the gate drive voltage to protect whatever device you may have connected it to from over or under voltage.

It's not cheap as per say, nor easy to implement due to the tiny package, but for some prototyping or a critical, space limited, application it might be of interest to some of you.

Yeah, I saw that. Linear Tech's newsletter is great.

There are somewhat-similar chips from other companies (e.g. Maxim), although I'm not sure if they have quite as much functionality. Often those types of chips just drive one FET.

Similar circuits, but with discretes in place of the chip, have been used to "turn off" the DC power to a subsystem before a nasty pulse can get through.

I wish this chip could handle a little higher max voltage, so it could be used for automotive load dump transient protection. Even better would be one that would do that in 24-28V automotive electrical systems, where the load dump transient can be around 175V for up to hundreds of milliseconds.
